Our Mission Statement

North American Institute for Digital Occlusion is committed to reducing and preventing human suffering by using the help of volunteers and donors through clinical research and scientific publications, utilizing data and biometrics, and educating professional healthcare providers as well as providing a resource for those that suffer so they may become their own best advocate.

Our focus is to study and report improvements on different modalities for diagnosing and treating life-altering Temporomandibular Disorders, such as Trigeminal Neuralgia, Meniere’s Disease, Phantom Bite Syndrome, Migraine Headaches, and Cervical Dystonia.

Progress is Needed

Why
NAIDO Exists

Imagine going to a cardiologist, and instead of utilizing advanced technology like an EKG to examine you, they only use a stethoscope before recommending an invasive and expensive procedure…

This is what happens to a patient with orofacial pain in America.

Most examinations start with bite paper, a rudimentary tool that only provides 13% of the information a doctor needs to know what’s going on. That missing 87% leads to a lot of confusion, frustration, and unnecessary treatment.

Better research, education, and access to care is needed, but this is an area of medicine that is being overlooked by both major medical associations as well as universities and research institutes.

NAIDO is here to fill the gap.

Our Goals

Treatment

Provide scholarships to patients who can’t afford DTR therapy.

Research

Offer grants for ongoing research for TMJ/orofacial pain.

Resources

Maintain Advanced Dental Techniques & Technologies (ADT&T), a 100% free online academic journal that publishes research on DTR therapy and TMJ disorders.

Restoring Hope & Saving Lives

Hear Cassidy’s Story

Cassidy struggled with chronic jaw and facial pain, avoided eating, barely spoke, and could only sleep about two hours a night. NAIDO is able to help countless patients just like her, and you can watch her entire journey here.

Meet Our Founder

Dr. Ben Sutter

Like many dentists, Dr. Sutter quickly saw he still had a lot to learn after earning his DMD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine). Once he started seeing patients with temporomandibular disorders and hearing about their persistent struggles, he went back to his roots in research.

What he discovered was a systemic lack of knowledge when it comes to understanding, diagnosing, and treating orofacial pain. Today, he is a highly respected expert and in-demand speaker/educator in DTR therapy, and his passion for helping patients dealing with these conditions led to him forming NAIDO and publishing the ADT&T journal.

TMD/Orofacial Pain Patient Stories

See What This Work Can Do

All of our efforts are aimed at improving patient outcomes, ensuring that the success stories like those featured below aren’t rare exceptions anymore. These videos feature patients who have undergone numerous treatments (even surgery), consulted several doctors, and lost hope. You’ll see with your own eyes how DTR therapy helped them get their lives back, and that’s exactly what NAIDO aims to do for so many others.
